A Man in His 30s Who Visited a Jeonse House Broke In with a Weapon... Ending in Tragedy

Fell to Death Jumping Out Window When Police Arrived
Police to Close Case Due to 'No Prosecution'

A man in his 30s who secretly entered a house he had visited a month earlier to view a rental property and threatened the resident with a weapon died after jumping out of a window when the police arrived.

According to the Geoje Police Station in Gyeongnam, on the 4th at around 12:10 PM, a man in his 30s identified as A fell to his death from an apartment in Geoje City, Gyeongnam, reported Yonhap News on the 5th.

In the early hours of the 4th, A secretly broke into the home of the victim B, who lives there. He locked the entrance door and threatened B with a weapon. Unable to resist and terrified, B sent a text message to a friend saying, "There is a burglar in the house, please report it," while A was asleep.

B’s friend went to a nearby police substation around noon that day to report the incident. When the police arrived at the scene, B quietly opened the door and ran outside. Awakened by the noise, A saw the police and suddenly jumped out of a window on the 9th floor. Severely injured, A was transported by a 119 ambulance to a nearby hospital but ultimately died from a skull fracture and other injuries.

Police investigations revealed that A had visited B’s house with a real estate agent in early last month to view the rental property B had listed. However, how A managed to break into B’s house, the specific method of intrusion, and A’s motive for the crime have not yet been determined. A police official told Yonhap News, "There may be blind spots in the CCTV footage, and we need to wait for fingerprint analysis results," adding, "We cannot disclose specific details as the investigation is ongoing."

Since A has died, the police plan to close the case with a "no prosecution" decision after investigating the circumstances of the incident.
