Due to the ongoing heatwave and monsoon rains, Governor Park Wansu of Gyeongnam Province visited the Hapcheon area to inspect measures against heavy rainfall and scorching heat.
On the 5th, Governor Park first visited the Hapcheon Gapsan steep slope collapse risk zone maintenance site.
This area is a steep slope with severe weathering, where the road was constructed before the 1990s, and it is classified as a D-grade collapse risk zone.
When heavy rain falls, there is a high risk of rockfall, and if the road is cut off, residents have to take a detour of about 30 minutes by car, making it a representative disaster-prone area that causes significant inconvenience to residents.
To address this, the steep slope maintenance project began in 2021, and it is currently 75% complete, with final completion scheduled for December this year.

Governor Park received a briefing on the current site status and progress rate from the Hapcheon County Director of Safety and Construction, and encouraged those involved in the project.
He stated, "With the monsoon season having started this year and expected to expand further into the inland areas of Gyeongnam, do your utmost to carry out the maintenance of steep slope collapse risk zones, and thoroughly prepare for resident evacuation and other safety measures around landslide-prone areas."

Governor Park then visited the Senior Citizens' Center in Hapcheon-eup to ask about inconveniences experienced during the summer and inspected overall summer facilities such as cooling shelters.
Currently, 499 cooling shelters, including facilities for the elderly, welfare centers, and village halls, are being operated in Hapcheon County.
Governor Park said, "Scorching heat and the monsoon season in summer increase discomfort and can even threaten the lives of the elderly. Actively promote the use of cooling shelters so that many residents, including seniors, can rest in comfortable and safe spaces, and consistently inspect farm and field workplaces during heat-vulnerable hours," he emphasized.
