Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) conducted a 'Road Traffic Safety Inspection within Apartment Complexes' targeting large apartment complexes in the area in collaboration with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) to prevent traffic accidents.

Until now, roads within apartment complexes were classified as private property and thus not subject to the 'Road Traffic Act,' resulting in insufficient installation of traffic safety facilities and difficulties in investigating accident causes and enforcement when accidents occurred, placing these roads in a traffic accident blind spot.

However, with the recent amendment of the Traffic Safety Act, supervision and government support for roads within multi-family housing complexes have become possible.

Accordingly, the district conducted traffic safety inspections on the 1st and 2nd of this month targeting three large-scale apartment complexes with long internal road sections, including Gwanak Dream Town Apartments.

The inspection involved traffic experts from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) visiting the sites directly to preliminarily check the management status of traffic safety facilities and safety signs, as well as risk factors for traffic accidents. Based on the inspection results, improvement plans will be proposed to address deficiencies.

At the apartment complexes, after reviewing whether to reflect the Authority's recommended improvements, they can submit improvement plans to the district and carry out self-improvements. In the future, the district plans to actively consider projects to partially support improvement costs.

Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, stated, "With the amendment of the Traffic Safety Act, we expect to effectively eliminate risk factors on roads within apartment complexes, which have been blind spots for traffic safety," and added, "We will continue to make our best efforts to create a safe walking environment for residents."
