Mapo-gu Operates 'Visiting Filial Piety School'

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that following the well-received "Mapo Hyo School," known for its solid instructors and well-structured curriculum, it will now operate the "Visiting Hyo School" tailored to the perspective of youth.

While the "Mapo Hyo School," which began on June 22, is a customized program aimed at understanding the modern meaning of hyo (孝) and establishing a horizontal, relational culture of filial piety, the "Visiting Hyo School" is a school-linked program designed to help youth understand, establish, and practice the concept of hyo from their viewpoint.

The "Visiting Hyo School" will start on July 12 and run until November at seven elementary and middle schools in the area, with a total of approximately 950 students participating.

To capture the interest of youth, Mapo-gu has prepared various participatory programs including ▲a special lecture on youth character education titled "Hyo (孝)" ▲a discussion on the theme of hyo ("My thoughts on hyo and ways to practice it") ▲and experiential activities (making handmade stamps for parents, creating resource-recycling hyo walking sticks, and making framed Korean calligraphy on hyo).

Additionally, to allow youth to view hyo from their perspective, seven retired principals who have long served in education were recommended by the Office of Education and schools as instructors.

Together with one instructor to lead discussion activities and three instructors responsible for experiential activities, a total of 11 instructors were appointed on June 28.

Mapo-gu expects that through the "Visiting Hyo School," youth will recognize the importance of hyo, one of the values gradually fading in modern society, learn attitudes of respect toward others, and form a healthy self-identity.

Inquiries about the "Visiting Hyo School" can be made to the Lifelong Education Team of the Education Policy Division in Mapo-gu.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "We have prepared the Visiting Hyo School so that youth can love their families, respect their parents, and learn the wisdom of life," adding, "Mapo-gu will continue to carry out filial piety administration from various perspectives to spread a culture of hyo that fits the times."
