Opening Ceremony of 25-Member Monitoring Team Held Together
Mayor Sang-il Lee: "We Will Create a City Where Seniors Are Happy"
On the 5th, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province held a plaque unveiling ceremony for the 'Age-Friendly City' certification and a launch ceremony for the monitoring team at City Hall.
This plaque ceremony followed Yongin City's receipt of the 'Age-Friendly City' certification from the World Health Organization (WHO) in May. At that time, Yongin City received the certification in a record shortest period of two weeks after applying to the WHO.

On the day of the event, the launch ceremony for the Age-Friendly City monitoring team, consisting of 25 members, was also held. The monitoring team members were selected through an open recruitment process recommended by each eup, myeon, dong, and related organizations. The monitoring team will inspect projects related to the age-friendly city for two years and investigate inconveniences experienced by the elderly in daily life.
Mayor Lee Sang-il said, "Although we are facing difficulties in financial management due to decreased tax revenue, we have increased the budget related to education and welfare to make Yongin a better living community," adding, "Currently, the city has prepared 55 projects to ensure that the elderly can enjoy a happy life as members of the local community."
Earlier, in 2022, the city conducted a research project with the Yongin City Policy Research Institute titled 'Promotion of Age-Friendly City International Network Certification.' Based on this, the slogan 'A Special Future Made Together, Yongin Special City' was established, and three major goals were set: ▲Creating a safe and secure living environment for all citizens ▲Realizing social integration where intergenerational understanding and respect for the elderly are ensured ▲Building a healthy and comfortable welfare system for old age.
The city will carry out a total of 55 projects over three years for the elderly in the region, including ▲expanding senior job opportunities ▲creating augmented reality (AR) sports experience spaces ▲providing customized care services for the elderly ▲support projects for dementia patients ▲operating the age-friendly city monitoring team ▲and on-site repair services for minor malfunctions in single elderly households.
