Democratic Party Gyeongbuk Branch Condemns 'Administrative Tyranny' Over Appointment Withdrawal of Professor Accused of Sexist Remarks as Gyeongbuk Happiness Foundation Head

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 5th, "The Gyeongbuk Provincial Council pushed ahead with the appointment of Jung Jaehoon as CEO of the Gyeongbuk Happiness Foundation, ignoring the council's 'unfit' opinion expressed during the personnel hearing on July 1."

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party stated, "On May 24, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council gave an 'unfit' opinion regarding Jung Jaehoon, who, while serving at Seoul Women's University, received a two-month suspension and was excluded from teaching due to discriminatory remarks involving profanity, academic discrimination, and misogynistic comments. In addition, the council cited his lack of management experience, difficulty in devoting himself to the role as an incumbent professor, and insufficient understanding of the realities in the Gyeongbuk region as reasons for their decision."

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party continued, "After the personnel hearing, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government remained silent for over 40 days and then took advantage of the confusion caused by the replacement of the 12th Gyeongbuk Provincial Council's leadership to make a 'surprise appointment.' This action not only disregards the judgment of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council, the representative body of the residents, but also constitutes an 'administrative tyranny,' as it blatantly ignores the personnel verification agreement signed with the council in December 2016 and the personnel hearing system introduced last September to establish a legal basis for such procedures."

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party strongly urges, "Following the appointment of the director of the Gyeongbuk Independence Movement Memorial Hall, which sparked controversy over pro-Japanese historical views, and the appointment of the president of the Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Organization despite the council's unfit opinion, we express deep concern over Governor Lee Cheolwoo's unilateral personnel practices, including this 'surprise appointment' of the CEO of the Gyeongbuk Happiness Foundation, and strongly demand the immediate withdrawal of the appointment."
