High-Difficulty Tests Including Underwater Rescue, Rope Descent, and Traffic Accident Evaluation

Preparing During Off-Duty Hours with Help from Surrounding Colleagues

The first female life rescuer has emerged in the Gwangju Fire Headquarters.

The Gwangju Metropolitan City Fire Safety Headquarters announced on the 5th that firefighter Jeong Eun-hwa from the Bitgeurin 119 Safety Center at Gwangsan Fire Station passed the '9th Life Rescuer Qualification Exam' held on the 25th of last month.

The life rescuer qualification was introduced in 2012 to train 'professional rescue personnel' capable of saving citizens' lives in many crisis situations.

It is a high-level exam that requires passing in-depth life rescue evaluations such as underwater and water surface rescue, rope descent and climbing, and traffic accident rescue.

Firefighter Jeong Eun-hwa, a rookie firefighter appointed in January last year, faced difficulties honing advanced life rescue skills with her short experience, but with the help of colleagues, she prepared for the exam during her off-duty hours.

Firefighter Jeong said, "I obtained the life rescuer qualification because I wanted to have the competencies required of firefighters and the appropriate qualifications to rescue citizens," adding, "I took on the challenge because I am a firefighter."
