Ulsan Office of Education to Foster Local Talent in the Petrochemical Sector

Korea Polytechnics Offers Petrochemical Process Operation Training

20 First and Second Year Students from Ulsan Technical High School Chemical Engineering Department Participate

Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Changsoo) will collaborate with Korea Polytechnic VII Ulsan Campus (Acting President Kim Dokyung) to operate a five-day regional industry-tailored technical training program in the field of petrochemical process operation from the 8th to the 12th.

Twenty first- and second-year students from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Ulsan Technical High School will participate in the petrochemical process operation training, which will be held at the Korea Polytechnic University Petrochemical Process Technology Training Center.

This training program, following last year's initiative, is designed to foster young technical talents equipped with adaptability to the industrial sites of Ulsan's future core industries, such as petrochemicals and secondary battery materials, and to support their employment and settlement in local companies.

The training consists of field-oriented courses, including understanding the workforce structure in the chemical sector, petrochemical quality analysis, electrical control, mechanical maintenance and explosion-proofing, chemical process operation practice, and safety experience.

The Korea Polytechnic University Petrochemical Process Technology Training Center was established in June 2020 to cultivate professionals specialized in the local petrochemical industry. With its pilot plant facilities, the center provides practical training in petrochemical process operation and control, equipment maintenance, safety education, and employer-commissioned training. A pilot plant is a small-scale facility constructed experimentally before introducing new processes or products.

The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education and Korea Polytechnic University (Ulsan) have been working closely together to nurture technical personnel in the region's core industries. In August, they plan to offer basic training in artificial intelligence to 20 first-year students from vocational high schools.

A representative from Korea Polytechnic University stated, "Our university is closely cooperating with the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education to foster technical personnel focused on practical skills needed in the local industrial field," and added, "We are actively fulfilling the role of a regional university to contribute to the development of the region and its industries by cultivating talent tailored to local needs."

A representative from the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education said, "The petrochemical industry, along with the secondary battery materials industry, is expected to see increased demand for local manpower," and continued, "We will make greater efforts to support local employment for vocational high school students by fostering talent tailored to local industries such as secondary batteries, industrial robots, and artificial intelligence."

The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has signed agreements with Korea Polytechnic University and Ulsan College of Science and Technology to foster technical talent tailored to local industries, providing vocational high school students with training in secondary batteries, industrial robots, petrochemical processes, and more.
