Impeached Prosecutor Lee Seong-yoon Sues Opposition Lawmaker... "False 'Daebyeon Injection' Claim"

Park Sang-yong, deputy chief prosecutor of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office (age 43, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 38), who was subject to impeachment after investigating the Ssangbangwool North Korea remittance case, is suing Lee Seong-yoon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, for defamation over allegations of 'feces injection' against him.

According to the legal community on the 5th, Park's side is expected to submit a complaint against Lee for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in the afternoon. Park, currently studying in the UK, will proceed with the lawsuit by appointing a legal representative.

Earlier, on the 14th of last month, Lee raised the suspicion for the first time during a plenary meeting of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, pointing out that about 30 prosecutors from Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office held a drinking party with special activity funds in January 2019. Although Lee did not mention Park's name, the impeachment motion filed by the Democratic Party on the 2nd against Park included the content that "on the evening of January 8, 2019, after drinking at the executive cafeteria inside the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office building, feces in the form of diarrhea were defecated on the floor of the waiting room for visitors in the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office building, and feces were also smeared on the washbasin and walls of the men's restroom, thereby damaging public property," which identified the subject. At that time in January 2019, Lee served as the head of the Anti-Corruption Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office.

In response, Park stated that it was a "clear falsehood." On the 20th of last month, Park rebutted through the prosecution's internal network (Eprose), saying, "After a heavy sentence was handed down in the first trial for Lee Hwa-young recently, some political parties raised allegations against me related to an event held in the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office building five years ago in 2019, which are difficult to even mention." He added, "However, this is also a clear falsehood, and it can be easily verified by checking with the prosecutors who were working at the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office at that time."

He continued, "There are several fellow prosecutors who were with me at the time, and some have publicly stated that the case is unrelated to me," and criticized, "Nevertheless, some political parties continue to maliciously spread false information, as well as engage in organized defamation and agitation, simply because I investigated a specific case."
