Gyeonggawon Publishes Biohealth Industry Status Report... Presents 5 Development Plans

The Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency published a report titled "Current Status and Development Plans of the Biohealth Industry in Northern Gyeonggi" on the 5th, analyzing the current state of the biohealth industry in Northern Gyeonggi and exploring ways to foster its growth.

The biohealth industry is a high value-added sector that produces products used in the human body, such as biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, with continuous market growth and high potential to develop into a global advanced industry. Especially after COVID-19, not only the Korean government but also countries worldwide have been striving to foster the biohealth industry to secure health security and technological supremacy.

Gyeonggi-do is also making multifaceted efforts to nurture the biohealth industry in the Northern Gyeonggi region.

Additionally, Gyeonggi-do is promoting balanced development in the northern region through the establishment of the Northern Gyeonggi Special Self-Governing Province and has laid the policy foundation for fostering advanced industries in the north by establishing related basic plans.

In this report, the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency proposed five development measures: ▲preparing industry promotion strategies and implementation plans suitable for the characteristics and status of each city and county ▲establishing an innovation growth hub for the northern biohealth industry ▲providing incentives for attracting companies and strengthening public R&DB service capabilities ▲building the foundation for the northern bio-cluster and promoting linkage and cooperation ▲establishing a statistical basis for the northern biohealth industry.

Kang Seong-cheon, head of the agency, emphasized, "Since the 8th local government administration, policy interest in the development and industrial promotion of Northern Gyeonggi, including the establishment of the Northern Gyeonggi Special Self-Governing Province, has significantly increased," adding, "For balanced development and sustainable growth in Northern Gyeonggi, it is important to establish an industrial foundation that fits the local conditions and characteristics."
