Hyundai Motor Group Sponsors the '1st Jo Sumi International Vocal Competition'

Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 5th that it will officially sponsor the '1st Jo Sumi International Vocal Competition,' which aims to discover the next generation of opera stars.


The 1st Jo Sumi International Vocal Competition will be held from the 7th to the 13th at the ancient castle 'Ch?teau de la Fert?-en-Beauce' located in the Loire region of central France. This is the first time an international competition named after a Korean musician is being held on the international stage.


Soprano Jo Sumi is a world-renowned prima donna who has performed leading roles at the world's top five opera houses and won six international competitions over more than 30 years of activity on the international stage.


This competition is open to opera singers aged 18 to 32 from around the world who dream of becoming opera stars. Approximately 500 applicants from 47 countries worldwide are participating in this competition.

The judging panel includes Jo Sumi, Jonathan Friend, Artistic Advisor of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, USA, Alexander Gallopini, Casting Director of La Scala Theatre in Milan, Italy, and Alain Lancerot, President of Warner Classics and Erato, among other masters in the field of classical music.


A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "It is meaningful to participate as a sponsor in this important cultural exchange between Korea and France and to contribute to the expansion of the K-Classic base." He added, "We will continue sincere sponsorship and strive to expand and develop the cultural and artistic base in various fields."
