Integrated Counseling Program for 'Mental Health Promotion' Most Needed by Single-Person Households
Professional Counselors, Group Counseling, Specialized Psychological Counseling, In-Depth Counseling Provided... Remote Counseling Also Available
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is providing customized professional psychological counseling services for single-person households experiencing emotional difficulties such as depression and anxiety.
As of 2024, Gwanak-gu has the highest proportion of single-person households among the 25 districts of Seoul, with approximately 170,000 households residing in the area. According to the Gwanak-gu Single-Person Household Survey, the most needed support service for single-person households, after physical health promotion, is "mental health improvement."
Reflecting this, the district has hired professional counselors with psychological counseling certifications and experience to offer an integrated counseling program for the mental health of single-person households, including ▲group counseling ▲professional psychological testing ▲in-depth counseling.
The professional psychological testing program, scheduled for the second half of the year, is currently recruiting 25 applicants until July 13, and counseling will be conducted according to individual schedules.
Professional psychological testing is a process of "understanding oneself" using standardized psychological assessment tools such as MMPI-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2) and TCI (Temperament and Character Inventory). It allows individuals to deeply examine their personality and current inner psychological states such as depression and obsessive-compulsive tendencies.
In-depth counseling is a process of "finding ways to be a little happier" through sincere one-on-one conversations with a professional psychological counselor. Eight sessions (50 minutes each) are provided free of charge, and remote counseling is available if face-to-face sessions are difficult.
Earlier in May, the district conducted group counseling for single-person households experiencing psychological difficulties such as depression and burnout.
Participants responded very positively to the counseling, saying, "Sharing experiences and solving problems together helped alleviate social isolation and form new human relationships."
For more details, information is available on the Seoul Single-Person Household Portal and the KakaoTalk channel "Gwanak Single-Person Household Companion Talk," and inquiries can also be made to the Gwanak-gu Single-Person Household Support Center.
Mayor Park Jun-hee stated, "Emotional difficulties like depression are like a cold of the mind and require expert prescriptions," adding, "I hope this psychological counseling provides an opportunity to take care of mental health and think together about ways to live a happier life."
