The Family Health Home Meal project is a health program that combines Home participation, Meal nutrition education, and Training physical activity. It is popular every year as it allows families to share affection through easy and fun activities.
This year’s project, targeting 30 families with children aged 6 to 10, consists of a 6-week non-face-to-face education program including one group experience event. During this period, physical activities will be held 12 times and nutrition education 6 times.
On June 29, families gathered at the Nowon-gu Office auditorium participated in a play-type physical activity experience event using new sports equipment under the guidance of professional instructors. New sports are modified and combined existing sports to be easy and safe, allowing anyone to enjoy them as daily physical activities. The district plans to encourage continuous physical activity among families by providing an opportunity for parents, who are unfamiliar with new sports equipment, to experience it together.
Following this, nutrition education and physical activity education will be conducted non-face-to-face over six weeks using KakaoTalk. First, nutrition education provides healthy food recipes along with guidance materials on ingredients and nutritional balance. Learning materials about phytochemicals contained in fruits and vegetables and themed color-based understanding such as red (Greek tomato) for immune enhancement and green (broccoli soup) for liver health are provided.
For physical activities, 10 types of equipment such as play ropes and one markers are supported, and videos demonstrating how to play using them are provided. Activities range from outdoor play with family to indoor play using newspapers or paper cups that can be done without worrying about noise between floors.
Families who watch educational materials on the dedicated KakaoTalk channel send photos and videos after performing exercise and cooking activities themselves. The channel offers customized individual counseling and Q&A to enhance understanding of the education and resolve family-specific questions.
During the period, incentives such as separate exercise equipment will be provided to outstanding participants and children showing excellent growth based on body composition and health behavior measurements before and after the program. After the program ends, it will be linked to the public health center’s ‘Dream Tree Health Counseling Room’ project, which helps maintain proper exercise and eating habits through customized health counseling by exercise and nutrition experts.
An official from the district emphasized that “children’s motor skills are greatly influenced by the participation of parents and children in exercise life and the home exercise environment,” explaining that the program was planned by combining nutrition education, which families find difficult at home.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, “Parental interest and participation are most important for exercise habits and healthy nutrition intake in childhood,” adding, “We will review all our policies from a health perspective and continue to provide various projects to promote health across all generations.”
