Gyeonggi Province will conduct a joint safety inspection to prevent fishing vessel accidents in the Gyeonggi coastal waters from the 9th to the 25th of this month.
This inspection aims to prevent loss of life and property damage caused by fishing vessel capsizing accidents, and will be carried out jointly by Gyeonggi Province, five coastal cities including Hwaseong-si, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority, the Fishing Vessel Safety Operation Bureau, and the Coast Guard.
The inspection targets fishing vessels at Jeongok Port in Hwaseong-si, Bangameori Port in Ansan-si, Oido Port in Siheung-si, Pyeongtaek Port in Pyeongtaek-si, and Daemyeong Port in Gimpo-si.
The main inspection items include ▲checking whether fishing vessel equipment is properly installed and its condition ▲whether the vessel location transmitter has been arbitrarily turned off ▲fire risk factors and firefighting equipment, with particular attention to acts such as arbitrarily modifying or installing the hull, engine, or equipment after vessel inspection.
Gyeonggi Province plans to recommend immediate on-site improvements for minor issues found during the joint safety inspection, and require repairs to be completed before departure for serious defects to allow operation.
Kim Bong-hyun, Director of the Marine Fisheries Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "This spring, we conducted safety inspections on 108 nearshore fishing vessels and took corrective actions on 42 cases," adding, "We will continue joint inspections with related organizations to enhance the effectiveness of fishing vessel safety inspections."
