Clear Visibility Even on Cloudy Days... National Changwon University Installs 'Smart Traffic Lights'

On the 4th, Changwon National University announced that it has installed LED smart traffic lights to ensure the safety of its campus members.

The "Pedestrian Guardian Smart Crosswalk Traffic Light," installed at the crosswalk in front of the main entrance to the library?an area frequently used by students and other university members?was developed by Human Defense Co., Ltd., a local venture company.

This system projects red and green LED lights onto both the road and the sidewalk, making it easier for drivers to recognize pedestrians and encouraging them to check their surroundings.

During the day, an LED text display is used instead of lights, while at night, two colored lights are projected, ensuring pedestrians are easily visible regardless of the time of day or weather conditions.

Changwon National University explained that vehicle traffic on campus has increased significantly since the opening of National Road No. 25 in 2014, which led to the installation of the North Gate entrance.

According to campus vehicle entry and exit records for June, 87% of vehicles exited during morning rush hour and 74% entered during evening rush hour, indicating that most were simply passing through the campus within ten minutes.

The university analyzed that this is because vehicles using National Road No. 25 during rush hours are passing through the campus instead of taking the one-lane route toward Changwon Jungang Station.

In response, the university considered imposing a safety surcharge on vehicles simply passing through to protect students and other campus members, but the plan was scrapped due to local opposition.

The Changwon National University administration stated, "We will continue to do our best to reduce safety blind spots so that students?the greatest asset and future of the university, the local community, and South Korea?can study in a safe environment."
