Dongnam Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences Hosts Future Innovation Symposium on Radiological Medical Science

Preparing to Become a Global Hub for Radiological Medical Science

Southeast Radiation Oncology Center (Director: Lee Changhun) recently held the '1st Future Innovation Symposium in Radiation Medical Science' at the center's main auditorium.

The Future Innovation Symposium in Radiation Medical Science was organized as a forum for public discussion, aiming to create a foundation for collaboration among the nation's top experts so that the Southeast Radiation Medical Science Complex can become a global hub for radiation medical science, generate research achievements, and lead to practical applications.

More than 50 domestic experts in the field of radiation medical science participated in the symposium, which was chaired by Professor Noh Junghoon of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Pusan National University Hospital. The presentations included: ▲ Localization of Radiation Therapy Devices and Activation Strategies for the Southeast Accelerator Industry (Imanwoo, Head of Medical Physics Research Team, Southeast Radiation Oncology Center) ▲ Trace Analysis of Marine Microalgae Using Photon Activation Analysis (Kim Hyojin, Radiation Dose Assessment Research Team, Southeast Radiation Oncology Center) ▲ Advanced Regenerative Bio Law and Industry Status (Kim Yongmin, Head of Policy Planning Team, Regenerative Medicine Promotion Foundation) ▲ Research on High-Dose Radiation Exposure Treatment Using Organoids (Lee Seungbeom, Head of Radiation Exposure Treatment Research Team, Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences) ▲ Introduction to Carbon Ion Therapy (Son Jaeman, Professor of Oncology, Seoul National University Hospital).

The participants shared the latest research trends to generate achievements through the early activation of the Southeast Radiation Medical Science Industrial Complex.

Lee Hongje, Head of the Research Center at Southeast Radiation Oncology Center and organizer of the symposium, said, "In addition to the Southeast Radiation Oncology Center, the Southeast Radiation Medical Science Industrial Complex will see the completion of a Carbon Ion Therapy Center in 2026 and a new research reactor for export in 2027. Government-funded research institutes are expected to discover new projects in the field of radiation medical science and generate innovative research results through close collaboration," adding, "We will also strive to make Busan a gathering place for outstanding companies by revitalizing future growth industries and nurturing local talent. Through the symposium, we aim to regularly create opportunities for collaboration among research institutions and lead future innovation in science and technology in radiation medical science."
