On the 4th, media organizations issued a joint statement urging the withdrawal of the nomination of former Daejeon MBC President Lee Jin-sook as the Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission. On the same day, President Yoon Suk-yeol nominated Lee as the next candidate for the Chairperson of the Commission.
Seven media organizations, including the National Union of Mediaworkers, the Broadcast Journalists Association, and the Korea PD Association, criticized, "The nomination of former President Lee Jin-sook, who was caught secretly pushing for the privatization of MBC, which was mentioned as the final stage of the Lee Myung-bak administration's takeover of MBC ahead of the 2012 presidential election, reveals the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's true intentions regarding MBC privatization to the public."
They continued, "Candidate Lee Jin-sook is merely a personnel appointment intended to execute the installation of a pro-government board prepared by former Chairperson Kim Hong-il to seize control of public broadcasting," and asserted, "President Yoon Suk-yeol should abandon his ambition to take over MBC and immediately withdraw the nomination of candidate Lee Jin-sook. Candidate Lee Jin-sook should also step down voluntarily before facing humiliation at the confirmation hearing."
