Choi, who serves as the chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, made these remarks after concluding the emergency committee meeting and conveying the committee's decisions. Previously, on the day before, the People Power Party conducted a filibuster to block the submission of the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor bill to the plenary session. During the debate opposing the bill by the first speaker, Yoo Sang-beom, a People Power Party lawmaker, Choi and fellow party member Kim Min-jeon were caught on camera leaning back in their chairs and dozing off. In response to this, Jeong Jeom-sik, the policy committee chairman of the People Power Party, was seen reprimanding, saying, "Remove those who are sleeping."
Subsequently, Bae Su-jin, spokesperson for the Joguk Innovation Party, commented, "They are not just nodding off but sleeping very comfortably. Isn't the National Assembly a place that works for the people?" and criticized, "Please sleep at home. It only angers the people watching." In an interview on YTN Radio's 'News Fighting with Bae Seung-hee' on the same day, lawmaker Kim also expressed regret over being caught dozing off, calling it "a truly shameful incident" and "a very embarrassing situation."
Kim explained, "I was at the National Assembly just a moment ago and came out, and the night before, I waited until late at night. I am in a position of studying by day and working by night," adding, "There was a vision presentation the day before and many overlapping events, so I was physically very exhausted."
