KCC Warns to Beware of Fraudulent Sales at 'Galaxy Z6 Series' Authorized Stores

Warning on Fraudulent Sales of 'Galaxy Z6 Flip·Folder'
High-Priced Plans, Additional Services, and Separate Contracts May Be Induced

The Korea Communications Commission has issued a fraud alert regarding the Samsung Electronics foldable phone 'Galaxy Z6 series' set to be released on the 24th.

On the 4th, the KCC warned that fraud sales of the 'Galaxy Z Fold6' and 'Galaxy Z Flip6' could occur through false, exaggerated, or deceptive advertisements, urging users to be cautious.

They advised caution against so-called 'Seongjijeom' stores that operate through online channels such as online cafes, blogs, and bands, offering illegal subsidies.

These Seongjijeom stores claim to sell the latest smartphones at low prices but often require separate contracts to receive subsidy payments.

There is also a possibility that they might explain discounts such as selective contract discounts provided by telecom companies or credit card partnership discounts as if they are offered by the stores.

Additionally, some may induce customers to subscribe to high-priced plans or additional services by offering free smartwatches, tablets, and other devices.

The KCC advised that to prevent fraud, consumers should carefully check discount conditions and installment principal amounts when offered excessively low purchase prices.

A KCC official stated, "With the amendment of the Mobile Communications Business Act, from the 24th, fines can be imposed for failure to post online prior consent forms." He added, "Accordingly, together with telecom companies and the Korea Communications Users Protection Association, we plan to strengthen on-site inspections focusing on online Seongjijeom stores to check the posting of prior consent forms, monitor the market for false, exaggerated, or deceptive advertisements, and verify legal violations."
