On the 4th at 10 a.m., the Seocho Police Station in Seoul summoned Pastor Choi, who was accused under the Stalking Crime Punishment Act (Stalking Punishment Act), as a suspect for questioning.
Before the suspect interrogation on that day, Pastor Choi said, “The person who gave the gift was subjected to a travel ban and summoned five times by the prosecution and police, dragged around, but the person who received the bribe does not even stand at the photo line, which is against the constitution that guarantees fairness to everyone,” adding, “The prosecution is conducting a shielded investigation and is watching the regime’s mood.”
He continued, “In this investigation, I plan to prove that it is not a stalking crime,” and added, “It is not right to disparage and demonize with objectively baseless sophistry and ‘covering one’s eyes and pretending not to see.’”
When asked by reporters why he contacted First Lady Kim multiple times, he replied, “I have repeatedly said that I contacted her to advise and consult on North Korea policy and unification policy,” adding, “As a Korean-American involved in the unification movement, I contacted the presidential couple for the establishment of a peace system in the homeland and to prevent war.”
When asked if he tried to meet despite First Lady Kim’s refusal, he drew a line by saying, “That did not happen.” Pastor Choi said, “When the Yangpyeong highway alteration incident occurred last year, First Lady Kim sent a long message saying, ‘When I was subjected to murderous attacks and slanders, you, Pastor, were my greatest support,’” and questioned, “If she thought of me as a stalking suspect in September 2022, how could she have sent such a message last year?”
Finally, Pastor Choi said, “I verified First Lady Kim through the form of ‘undercover,’” and added, “Various solicitations were attempted, but unfortunately, First Lady Kim accepted all the gifts given.” He also stated that he would submit messages exchanged with First Lady Kim as evidence during the police investigation that day.
Meanwhile, Pastor Choi is suspected of secretly filming about ten meetings with First Lady Kim Geon-hee and delivering luxury bags since June 2022. The footage was released last November through the online media Seoul’s Voice.
Additionally, Pastor Choi is under investigation by the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul and the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency. He is registered at the Yeongdeungpo Police Station on charges including trespassing and defamation, and at the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency on charges of defamation and violation of election laws.
