Lotte Homeshopping has been carrying out the urban green space creation project ‘Sum;Pyeonhan Forest’ for fine dust reduction for four years. Since last year, it has focused on creating school forests to provide future generations of children with a nature-friendly environment and safe resting places. Starting with Songhwa Elementary School in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, it has completed the fifth school forest at Yeongil Elementary School in Guro-gu, following Songpa-gu Pungnap Elementary School, Seongbuk-gu Jangwi Elementary School, and Dongjak-gu Gangnam Elementary School.
The proportion of students from multicultural families at Seoul Yeongil Elementary School is very high at 70%. Lotte Homeshopping selected Yeongil Elementary School, which faces difficulties in improving school facilities and creating green spaces and has many unused spaces, as the site for the 11th forest. After about a month of construction, the school forest was completed. A total of 3,140 plants including herbaceous plants, trees, and shrubs were planted over an area of approximately 400㎡, and artificial turf, outdoor tables, and swing chairs were installed to create a resting space. It is expected to be used as an ecological learning and eco-friendly resting area for students in the future.
Lotte Homeshopping is carrying out the ‘Sum;Pyeonhan Forest’ project, planting trees in fine dust concentrated management zones and providing citizen convenience facilities until 2025, and plans to start construction of the 12th urban forest at Wolgye Middle School in Nowon-gu, Seoul, next month.
Dong-gyu Lee, Head of Marketing Division at Lotte Homeshopping, said, “We are honored to present a nature-friendly space to Seoul Yeongil Elementary School, which has many students from multicultural families,” and added, “We will continue to strive to create school forests so that children can nurture their dreams in a safe environment free from fine dust.”
