Construction Company Conducts Restoration Work and Safety Inspection
The roof of a shared entrance at an apartment complex in Suji-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province, collapsed, prompting the construction company to investigate the cause.
According to Yongin City on the 3rd, the roof of a shared entrance at an apartment in Suji-gu collapsed on the 1st. It is reported that a loud noise and vibrations occurred at the time of the collapse. There were no casualties as no residents were passing by the site at that time.
The apartment complex was completed in December 1994. It consists of twelve buildings, all reportedly constructed using the same method as the building where the collapse occurred.

Following news of the collapse, some raised suspicions of poor construction. On the same day, a post titled "Yongin Suji Apartment 1st Floor Entrance Collapse" was uploaded on the online community 'Bobaedream,' where the author shared photos of the collapsed shared entrance roof, stating, "Yesterday, my wife was doing the dishes at home when she heard a thud, and when she went out, it looked like this."
Netizens who saw the photos pointed out that no rebar was visible in the structure shown, suggesting the possibility of substandard construction. Some commented, "Did they just stick it together with cement and glue?" and "It looks like they poured concrete without any rebar. Since all buildings were built the same way, other entrances of that apartment should be approached with caution."
The construction company plans to carry out restoration work on the collapsed section and conduct safety inspections on all twelve buildings.
