Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Makes Additional Remarks in Regular Briefing
Regarding the fire that occurred last month on the 24th at a battery factory in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, which resulted in the deaths of Chinese workers, it has been revealed that the Chinese government is maintaining communication with South Korea for follow-up measures.

On the 3rd, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed this position through the results of a regular briefing posted on its website, introducing that President Yoon Suk-yeol had offered condolences for the victims of the fire at the Cabinet meeting the previous day. This was an additional remark made separately after the on-site briefing where it was not mentioned.
Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated, “After the Hwaseong fire accident occurred, South Korean leaders including President Yoon Suk-yeol and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo expressed condolences and sympathy multiple times to the victims and their families, and requested the relevant departments to thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and ensure meticulous handling.”
He continued, “China is paying close attention to this unfortunate incident involving significant casualties among Chinese nationals caused by the Hwaseong battery factory fire. We will continue to maintain close communication with South Korea and urge South Korea to properly carry out the handling and take measures to firmly prevent the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents.”
Earlier, President Yoon offered condolences for the victims of the Hwaseong fire and the victims of a traffic accident that occurred in front of Seoul City Hall on the 1st during the Cabinet meeting the previous day. He also emphasized, “Industries that use various chemical substances, such as the battery industry, are difficult to extinguish with conventional methods. We must thoroughly investigate the types and causes of fires and establish more scientific safety measures.”
