Informal and Open Dialogue with Time for Questions and Answers

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held a communication session with young people at 7 p.m. on the 2nd at the Hwayang-dong Community Center, marking the third year of the 8th term of the civilian government.

According to the district, as of June 2024, the youth population aged 19 to 39 in Gwangjin-gu is 115,919, accounting for 34.7% of the total residents. One in three residents is a young person. In particular, Hwayang-dong has an overwhelmingly high youth ratio of 65.8% compared to other neighborhoods, so a meeting place was prepared at the Hwayang-dong Community Center. The goal was to listen to what young people need and their inconveniences and to realize demand-centered administration that can be actively reflected in district policies.

Prior to the on-site communication, the district conducted an online survey targeting young people from May 27 to June 10. The survey evaluated youth policies and selected the most successful policies.

Regarding Gwangjin-gu’s youth policies, 81% of participants evaluated them as “doing well,” with the main reasons being “efforts to support youth” and “helpfulness in daily life.”

The top youth policies identified were ▲1st place: support for language proficiency test fees ▲2nd place: temporary special support for youth monthly rent ▲3rd place: youth housing near subway stations. These results clearly reflect the realities faced by young people struggling with employment and housing.

The on-site communication began with a greeting from District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, followed by sharing the survey results, a Q&A session, free conversation, and sharing of participation impressions. Questions and answers were conducted without limiting topics, including which policy implemented by the district mayor was the most rewarding and how young people can enter politics. In-depth discussions were held on the necessity of youth policies and proposals for policies and systems that help young people.
