Pukyong National University Holds Completion Ceremony for Thailand International Development Cooperation Program

Around 50 Thai Youths Complete Program... Strengthening Social Engagement Skills

The KOICA Civil Society Cooperation Program Team at Pukyong National University (headed by Professor Jeong Beopmo of the Department of International Area Studies) announced on the 3rd that it held a completion ceremony for its international development cooperation training course at the Centara Hotel in Mae Sot, Thailand, on the 29th of last month.


At the ceremony, attended by Professor Jeong Beopmo, head of the program, Professor Moon Gihong, deputy head, Park Yongmin, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, Jeon Youngsook, head of the KOICA Thailand office, and Cho Hyunju, Secretary General of Global Sharing Movement, more than 50 young Thais who completed the course received their certificates.


The program team, together with the Global Sharing Movement, was selected for the entry-level civil society cooperation project supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and has been operating the project since April last year. As part of this project, the international development cooperation training course was conducted over 10 months, culminating in this completion ceremony.


More than 50 young Thais who participated in this course completed education related to international development cooperation, as well as interview training and mock interviews, internship programs, and briefings and workshops with relevant local organizations.


On this day, Park Yongmin, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, said, "Completing this training course marks the beginning of a new chapter in life and will serve as a beacon of hope for other migrant youths in similar situations."


Lee Heeyoung, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Pukyong National University, encouraged the graduates, saying, "I hope that the knowledge and experience you have gained from this course will help you achieve your dreams."


The KOICA Civil Society Cooperation Program Team at Pukyong National University also conducted Thai language education last year to enhance the employment capabilities of Myanmar refugee youths who have migrated from Myanmar to Thailand, in addition to this international development cooperation training course through the KOICA project.


The team plans to participate in the 2025 KOICA entry-level civil society cooperation project re-bidding to continue supporting the improvement of social participation capabilities of local youths in Thailand.
