Busan Port Authority Begins Production of Domestic Port Equipment for Phase 2-6 Following Phase 2-5

New Port West 'Con' Container Crane and Transfer Crane Contracts

Busan Port Authority (BPA) has signed a contract with domestic manufacturing companies for the production and installation of locally made port equipment at the 2-6 phase terminal of the Busan New Port West Container, following the 2-5 phase.

BPA conducted two rounds of bidding for port equipment manufacturing in November last year and February this year, but both were unsuccessful, resulting in delays to the project launch.

To resolve this, BPA adjusted the project budget and posted a third bidding announcement on May 20. As a result, a contract for container cranes was signed with HD Hyundai Samho, and for transfer cranes with HJ Heavy Industries. The contract amounts are 163.2 billion KRW and 170 billion KRW respectively (excluding VAT).

HD Hyundai Samho and HJ Heavy Industries were the companies responsible for producing and installing the container cranes and transfer cranes for the 2-5 phase of the West Container terminal, and have once again been tasked with the 2-6 phase equipment project.

The 2-6 phase terminal of the West Container is preparing to open around September 2027. This equipment project will be carried out over 36 months from the start date, with the goal of completing installation by the end of June 2027.

Kang Junseok, President of BPA, stated, “Following the 2-5 phase, we have also signed contracts with domestic manufacturing companies for port equipment at the 2-6 phase terminal, and we will actively strive to establish the West Container Terminal as a fully automated port based on domestic technology, foster domestic heavy industries, and create positive effects such as job creation.”
