'Quantum Computing SoBuJang Scale-up Valley Council' Launch Agreement
25 Organizations Including Standard Science Institute and LG Electronics Participate

Let's Build a Quantum Computing Materials and Components Ecosystem in Daejeon... Launch of a Council The launch ceremony of the 'Quantum Computing Materials, Parts, and Equipment Scale-up Valley Council' was held on the 3rd at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science. / Daejeon City

A council to establish a quantum computing materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) ecosystem in Daejeon has been launched.

On the 3rd, Daejeon City announced that it signed a business agreement to launch the 'Quantum Computing SoBuJang Scale-up Valley Council' at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) headquarters in Daejeon to foster the quantum computing SoBuJang industry.

The council includes 25 domestic and international quantum computing-related companies and institutions such as KRISS, the Science and Technology Connection Platform Social Cooperative (POSEP), LG Electronics, Pasqal, Quandela, MKS, Withwave, SDT, Korea Science and Technology Holdings, and Bluepoint Partners.

The participating organizations agreed to create a virtuous cycle ecosystem by concentrating related technologies, human resources, and capital through the establishment of the 'Quantum Computing SoBuJang Scale-up Valley' based in Daejeon, cooperating mutually from corporate investment to basic research, development, and commercialization.

According to the agreement, roles will be divided as follows: △ Valley infrastructure support (Daejeon City) △ R&D and testing service support (KRISS, KAIST, Pusan National University, Yonsei University) △ Development and commercialization (manufacturing companies such as MKS and Withwave) △ Mutual cooperation in market participation (demand companies such as LG Electronics, Pasqal, Quandela) △ Domestic and international commercialization and investment (Korea Science and Technology Holdings, Bluepoint Partners).

KRISS, the council’s lead organization, will serve as a demonstration testbed for stable commercialization as well as transfer core technologies to SoBuJang companies based on its top-level quantum research personnel and accumulated technological capabilities in Korea.

Lee Hoseong, President of KRISS, stated, “To gain competitiveness in the quantum supremacy race, securing ‘quantum engineering’ technology is essential,” adding, “This council is expected to create synergy by integrating excellent research capabilities from industry, academia, and research institutes and to generate new growth engines for the quantum industry.”

Jang Hojong, Deputy Mayor for Economic Science of Daejeon City, said, “To prepare for the full-fledged quantum computing era, it is essential not only to conduct research and development of related technologies but also to establish a supporting SoBuJang ecosystem,” and added, “We hope that the launch of this council will lay the foundation for building the Daedeok Quantum Platform.”

Meanwhile, quantum computing is a game changer that will bring innovative changes across all fields including economy, society, and security. Competitive investments are being made mainly by major advanced countries. South Korea, which depends on imports for about 95% of its parts, is in a situation where independent SoBuJang technology development and supply chain securing are necessary.
