Senior Prosecutors Also Outraged... Prosecutors' Association Says "Prosecutor Impeachment Illegal... Shameless Attempt to Eradicate Prosecution"

The Democratic Party of Korea has strongly opposed the impeachment motion filed against four prosecutors who investigated the illegal remittance to North Korea case involving Representative Lee Jae-myung and the former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook case. The Prosecutors' Association, a group of retired prosecutors led by former Prosecutor General Han Sang-dae, has voiced strong resistance.

On the 3rd, the Prosecutors' Association issued a statement saying, "We are outraged," and demanded, "The Democratic Party must immediately withdraw the impeachment motion against the prosecutors."

Senior Prosecutors Also Outraged... Prosecutors' Association Says "Prosecutor Impeachment Illegal... Shameless Attempt to Eradicate Prosecution" Han Sang-dae, former Prosecutor General, serving as the 9th president of the Prosecutors' Alumni Association, a group of retired prosecutors.

The Prosecutors' Association stated, "The impeachment motion against the prosecutors who investigated and prosecuted Representative Lee Jae-myung by the Democratic Party is a clear illegal act and an abuse of power using their status as members of the National Assembly," adding, "Despite the obvious lack of grounds for impeachment, pushing forward with this unreasonable logic to impeach the prosecutors in charge of Lee Jae-myung and publicly disclosing it constitutes defamation and illegal conduct against the prosecutors."

The Prosecutors' Association also appealed for a swift review by the Constitutional Court, which is handling the impeachment trial, and the court currently hearing the Lee Jae-myung case.

The Prosecutors' Association said, "Since the unfairness of this impeachment motion against the prosecutors is clear, the Constitutional Court should immediately dismiss it, and the court should promptly try the Lee Jae-myung case to faithfully fulfill its role in checking the legislative dominance according to the principle of separation of powers under the Constitution."

Finally, the Prosecutors' Association strongly urged, "Furthermore, the prosecution must firmly respond to the Democratic Party's shameless attempts to destroy the prosecution and intimidate prosecutors."

The Prosecutors' Association is a social organization of retired prosecutors. Former Prosecutor General Han Sang-dae, who served as Director of the Legal Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Justice and Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office during the Lee Myung-bak administration, and as Prosecutor General from 2011 to 2012, currently serves as its 9th president.
