SOS Lab is showing strong performance. The news that the company is accelerating the commercialization of high-performance next-generation LiDAR and strengthening close cooperation with major overseas companies to speed up its entry into the global market appears to be influencing its stock price.
As of 10:24 AM on the 3rd, SOS Lab is trading at 10,800 KRW, up 13.8% from the previous day.
SOS Lab plans to secure funds through an initial public offering (IPO) and accelerate its market penetration in the automotive and robotics sectors by promoting its 3D fixed LiDAR optimized for autonomous driving, the ‘ML (Mobility LiDAR)’.
The flagship product, ML, is a fixed 3D high-resolution LiDAR product that is attracting the most attention in the autonomous driving industry. Unlike conventional ‘mechanical LiDAR,’ it does not have a rotating component, making it resistant to external shocks and very compact, thus not compromising the vehicle’s exterior design.
SOS Lab is a global leader in the fixed LiDAR field, having succeeded in domestic localization and owning core technology. Through collaborative projects with global top-tier companies, it has developed the structural design and key components of fixed LiDAR. This has also enabled the company to secure price competitiveness.
SOS Lab is actively continuing joint development with numerous domestic and international top-tier automotive OEMs and parts companies, including ‘SL (Seoul Lamp),’ which holds the number one market share in the domestic automotive lamp sector. The company’s strategy is to secure stable suppliers and preempt the autonomous driving market, which is expected to blossom in earnest within 1 to 2 years.
In fact, on the 20th of last month, the Ministry of Science and ICT visited the Korea Electronics Technology Institute Global R&D Center and the autonomous driving pilot zone in Pangyo to inspect the ‘Autonomous Driving Technology Development Innovation Project’ site. This project is a multi-ministerial cooperation initiative led by the Ministry of Science and ICT along with four other ministries, aiming for the commercialization of Level 4 or higher autonomous driving. Road testing is planned for next year.
Overseas, the commercialization of autonomous driving technology is also progressing rapidly. Recently, Tesla received approval for road pilot testing of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, an advanced autonomous driving assistance system beyond the existing Autopilot, in Shanghai, China. Google’s autonomous driving subsidiary, Waymo, also announced on the 25th (local time) that it will lift user restrictions for its autonomous unmanned taxi service.
An SOS Lab representative said, "As artificial intelligence (AI) technology advances, the development of autonomous driving technology and the government authorities’ perspectives on it are becoming increasingly positive day by day. LiDAR is a key device that enhances the safety of autonomous driving, and SOS Lab aims to establish itself as a leading domestic LiDAR company entering the global market."
