"A High School Student's Tribute: 'My Heart Breaks at an Age Similar to Dad's... Thank You, Dad'"

A Memorial Message Left by a Korean High School Student

A message left at the memorial site near Seoul City Hall Station, where a wrong-way traffic accident resulted in 15 casualties, is moving citizens to tears. The note, presumed to have been written by a 'student attending a nearby school,' mentioned that the victims were of 'father's age' and said, "I thought a lot about my dad."

The note is believed to have been written on the 2nd. Attached to a roadside divider railing, the note was wet from the rain that poured down that day, and white flowers were placed beneath it.

The author of the note identified themselves as a 'student attending a nearby school' and wrote, "I pray for the repose of the nine souls who tragically lost their lives on the way home after having a meal following work." Nine victims died in the accident that occurred on the afternoon of the 1st, six of whom died instantly at the scene. Most of the victims were men in their 30s to 50s.

They continued, "Yesterday, on my way home, I thought a lot about my dad," adding, "My heart breaks knowing that people around my dad's age suffered an unimaginably horrific accident."

They further expressed, "This morning, for the first time since entering high school, my dad drove me an hour and a half to school, and I am grateful for the opportunity to thank him," and said, "I hope that in that place, they enjoy the wealth and honor they could not experience here, and I wish peace and comfort to the bereaved families."
