Beef Rib Meat Full of Fat
When Complained, "That's How It Is"
Amid the controversy over 'fatty pork belly,' which has caused distress among many self-employed business owners, a new story has emerged about a butcher shop serving 'fatty beef,' sparking further debate.
On the 2nd, a post titled 'Fatty Beef' was uploaded on an online community. The author, Mr. A, began by saying, "My husband and I went out to eat beef to overcome a tough Monday after a long time."
The couple ordered the 'whole cow' menu at the butcher shop, which included 600g of beef from various cuts. The problem arose when the staff brought the food. The galbisal (rib meat) was covered with white chunks of fat.
Mr. A explained the situation, saying, "Part of the galbisal was so white that I had to rub my eyes in disbelief. Since my entire family runs self-employed businesses, we usually don’t complain even if there are foreign substances, poor service, or delays because we understand that everyone has their circumstances. But (the fatty galbisal) really seemed unacceptable, so I spoke up."
Photos shared by Mr. A show diced galbisal heavily covered with fat. In some parts, the amount of fat exceeds the red meat. In additional photos, the chadolbagi (brisket) is shown to be more than half fat. When the meat was placed on the grill, a lot of oil was released.
Mr. A said, "When I asked the staff, 'Is it normal for there to be so much white fat?' they replied, 'Galbisal is naturally like that.' I wonder if this is correct. I’m curious if it’s okay to complain next time."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "It seems they didn’t properly remove the fat," "Beef is already expensive, so what is this?" "Fatty beef following fatty pork belly," "Please reveal which restaurant this is," "The owner doesn’t know how to run a business," and "Did they give it to us to clean the grill?" A netizen B, who runs a butcher shop, advised, "If you sell galbisal like that, customers will all leave. I think they just sliced and served the fat that should have been trimmed and discarded because they didn’t want to waste it. Normally, meat with that much fat isn’t sold. Next time, be sure to strongly complain."
