Held from the 8th to 11th at Korea Science and Technology Center and Gangnam Square
In conjunction with the 2nd World Korean Scientists and Engineers Convention
Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will hold the "1st Teheran Valley Science Festival" from the 8th to the 11th of this month at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Yeoksam-dong and Gangnam Square.
The Teheran Valley Science Festival is planned in conjunction with the "2nd World Korean Scientists and Engineers Convention" held at the Korea Science and Technology Center. Hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, the World Korean Scientists and Engineers Convention is an event where over 2,000 Korean scientists and engineers from 19 countries attend to exchange with domestic scientists and share research achievements. Anyone can participate by simply applying and attend special and keynote lectures.
In conjunction with this event, the district has partnered with the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies to prepare a festival where science and technology can be easily understood and experienced.
20 Programs Held at the Science and Technology Center
At the Korea Science and Technology Center, various exhibitions, experiences, performances, and lectures will be held from 10 a.m. The space experience zone will display models of Nuriho and Danuriho rockets. Additionally, the lunar exploration robot from Korea’s first space exploration startup will be exhibited, allowing visitors to virtually drive on the moon’s surface.
AI technology that changes everyday life will also be showcased. The AI perfumer interacts with visitors, analyzes their style, and suggests customized perfume recipes, while an AI trained on emotional data analyzes human facial expressions and voices to recommend music.
Visitors can also experience various future transportation technologies such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) simulation, air taxi model exhibitions, and autonomous personal mobility robot experiences.
In the science art zone, artist Lee Byung-chan’s kinetic art (moving artwork) will be exhibited. A large-scale 10-meter piece created using disposable vinyl to represent an ecosystem draws attention. A composition AI program recognizes visitors’ faces and voices, creates a song within 30 seconds, and automatically plays it on the piano.
Lectures by science communicators will also be held, including ▲ Understanding and Prospects of Convergence Science & Brain Engineering (9th) ▲ How to Create a Creative Brain in the AI Era? (10th) ▲ Content Using Generative AI (11th). There will also be robot and drone performances and an IT magic show (10th).
Street Booths at Gangnam Square and Library-Linked Programs
To enhance the festival atmosphere on the streets, the district will operate five programs at Gangnam Square from 11 a.m. Here, visitors can enjoy a bingo game played with drones, a robot dog exhibition, and hands-on robot building with assembly blocks. A mime artist dressed as a 2-meter tall giant robot will roam the streets promoting the festival.
Additionally, science programs for students have been planned in collaboration with local libraries. Linked with the Makerspace program operated by the National Library for Children and Young Adults in Yeoksam-dong, three courses for middle school students will be offered. Thirteen district-run libraries will operate 26 programs throughout the month, including special science and technology exhibitions and book curation.
Lectures by science communicators, programs at the National Library for Children and Young Adults, AR dodgeball, and Popdrone experiences are accepting advance applications through the Gangnam-gu Teheran Valley Science Festival website.
District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “I hope this festival will be an opportunity to experience the changes in daily life brought about by the development of science and technology,” and added, “We will continue to actively support the World Korean Scientists and Engineers Convention held in Gangnam to become a hub for global cooperation networks among science and technology talents and an event that raises public interest in science and technology.”
