Yeongdeungpo-gu, the "Human Rights City," Launches the 6th Human Rights Committee

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced the launch of the 6th Human Rights Committee to realize "Yeongdeungpo-gu, a city of hope, happiness, and future" where everyone is respected and protected.

On the 2nd, the district held the 6th Human Rights Committee meeting, including the appointment ceremony and the meeting itself. The 6th Human Rights Committee consists of a total of 13 members: 11 new members, 1 member recommended by the district council, and 1 ex officio member.

Notably, the committee members are experts in various fields such as education, childcare, senior citizens, homeless people, safety, multiculturalism, and disabilities, and will actively work with the district for two years to improve human rights in Yeongdeungpo-gu.

The district’s Human Rights Committee is responsible for discovering and proposing various agendas that can protect and promote the human rights of residents, including reviewing the "Basic Plan for Human Rights Promotion," which serves as a blueprint for human rights policies, and the "Annual Implementation Plan Establishment and Evaluation."

At this meeting, the committee reported on the functions and activity directions of the Human Rights Committee and shared the results of a human rights awareness and environment survey conducted in the first half of this year targeting residents, public officials, and related organizations to establish the "3rd Basic Human Rights Plan."

The Basic Human Rights Plan is established every five years according to the "Ordinance on the Guarantee and Promotion of Human Rights in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul," and includes discovering education and publicity projects by sector aligned with the vision and goals to create a community where human rights are respected.

Accordingly, based on the values of the 8th elected district administration, the evaluation of the previous 2nd Basic Plan, and the results of the first half human rights survey, the Human Rights Committee plans to establish the 3rd Yeongdeungpo-gu Basic Human Rights Plan to realize "Yeongdeungpo-gu, a city of hope, happiness, and future."

Going forward, the district plans to continuously promote various projects to enhance residents' human rights in collaboration with the Human Rights Committee, including evaluating detailed annual human rights guarantee and promotion implementation projects and discovering current issues related to human rights policies and projects.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "I hope the 6th Human Rights Committee will actively work with the district to create Yeongdeungpo-gu as a human rights city where all residents are respected and protected," and added, "We will do our best to create a Yeongdeungpo-gu where residents care for each other without leaving anyone behind through various human rights education and projects."
