Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, visited the site of the collapsed fence at a multi-family housing complex in Junghwa-dong, caused by heavy rain overnight on the weekend, to closely inspect the damage and listen to residents' opinions.

At around 10:50 PM on the 29th of last month, the district office received a report from the 119 emergency center that the fence of the multi-family housing complex in Junghwa-dong had collapsed. Immediately, the duty officer dispatched to the scene along with the Junghwa Police Substation.

Upon arrival, they quickly set up a police line and mobilized one excavator and one dump truck to remove debris and secure the walkway, demonstrating prompt response.

Additionally, to check for any further fence collapse, a private expert was called for an emergency safety inspection at dawn on the 30th, two hours after the incident. Based on the expert's opinion that the possibility of additional collapse was low, a waterproof tarp was placed over the collapsed fence to prevent rainwater infiltration, and safety fences were installed to ensure residents' safety, with all efforts focused on securing public safety.

The district's swift response was possible due to rapid information sharing through a group chat involving related safety agencies such as the district office, fire station, and police station.

The cause of the fence collapse is presumed to be the aging of the fence on a building over 38 years old.

On the 1st, Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi personally visited the site to closely examine the damage and held a residents' meeting on-site to hear their opinions.

The district plans to implement emergency measures based on expert technical advice and devise long-term safety measures.

Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi stated, “Protecting residents' safety is the most important task,” adding, “We will make every effort to prepare countermeasures, including reviewing support projects for multi-family housing complexes, and do our best to prevent damage from future heavy rains.”
