'Bioinformatics Company' Insilicogen Wins AI Research Project from National Institute of Health

Research on Development of AI-Based Genetic Mutation Analysis Support Algorithm

Bioinformatics specialist company Insilicogen Co., Ltd. announced on the 2nd that it has been awarded a research project under the "Healthcare Heterogeneous Data Utilization System and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development Project" led by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's National Institute of Health. This research project involves developing an 'AI-based Genetic Variant Analysis Support Algorithm' using Large Language Models (LLM).

Through this project, which will be conducted over three years from 2024 to 2026, Insilicogen aims to provide accurate prediction and analysis related to genetic variants. The goal is to enhance the applicability of genetic variant research in the medical field. Professor Lee Ji-yeon’s team from Samsung Medical Center will participate in the joint research to verify genetic variant literature studies and disease-specific interpretation algorithms.

Insilicogen has successfully carried out numerous government projects, including the development of a high-sensitivity targeted gene selection kit for blood-based biomarker testing and the establishment of a preprocessing process for COVID-19 multi-omics data. Additionally, to strengthen competitiveness in bioresource research through AI technology advancement, the company is accelerating the sophistication of AI-based research data and the exploration and analysis of bioresources.

Kim Hyung-yong, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Insilicogen, stated, "More accurate and comprehensive genetic variant interpretation will contribute to early disease diagnosis, the development of personalized treatment strategies, and new drug development, thereby improving the quality of medical services." He added, "We plan to expand and advance AI-based LLM technology and apply it to the field of genome analysis."
