Improvement of Gwangjin-gu Senior Welfare Card... "Faster Emergency Response"

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has improved the Senior Welfare Card provided to seniors aged 65 and over and began support from July.

The Senior Welfare Card is a system first introduced nationwide by Gwangjin-gu in 1996 to effectively respond to the diverse welfare service needs of the elderly.

Under the goal of "Convenient use, diverse business types, benefits for all," the number of eligible recipients has been continuously increased, and various senior discount businesses have been discovered, contributing to the improvement of elderly welfare.

The improved Senior Welfare Card has been redesigned to allow input of emergency contact information and special notes. By adding individual health information and other details to the previously simple personal information on the Senior Welfare Card, it is expected that faster response will be possible in emergency situations.

Additionally, Gwangjin-gu created a QR code containing information on a total of 164 senior discount businesses and incorporated it into the Senior Welfare Card. In the future, the signboard design will be newly changed and supplied so that seniors can easily use senior discount businesses.

Seniors aged 65 and over who wish to apply for the Senior Welfare Card can visit their local community service center with a photo and ID. Upon application, they will receive two additional items: the municipality’s first portable “Capsule in Card” containing welfare card information and a “Senior Safety Card” for home display.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We have improved and supported the Senior Welfare Card to enable quick and appropriate action in emergency situations,” and added, “Gwangjin-gu will continue to discover and improve effective policies for enhancing senior welfare.”
