Three Sejong University Students Donated 300,000 Won at Gwangjin-gu Veterans Hall on 24th Last Month
Two Students Scheduled to Enlist in Military Service in July-August Say "Wanted to Do Something Meaningful"
In June, Month of National Defense and Veterans, Reflecting on Families of Local Veterans and Veterans Hall
On the 24th of last month, three students came to the Gwangjin-gu Veterans Hall (Director Ha Sang-ho) carrying an envelope. They handed over a donation of 300,000 won to the director, asking that it be used for the veterans' families in Gwangjin-gu.
The main contributors were Ryu Jae-woong, Yang Jun-hyeok, and Seol Mi-reu, students attending the College of Humanities at Sejong University. Ryu Jae-woong, the student council president of the College of Humanities at Sejong University, had been thinking about meaningful activities as a humanities student. Yang Jun-hyeok and Seol Mi-reu, who were scheduled to enlist in the military in July and August, respectively, joined forces. They thought about ways to provide even a little help to veterans' families in the local community. Although there were other methods such as online donations, they prioritized veterans' families nearby. Associate Professor Noh Seong-ho of the Chinese Trade major and Professor Kim Seung-gu of the Korean Language and Literature Department at Sejong University also participated.
Ha Sang-ho, director of the Veterans Hall, who received the donation, said, "I was moved by the security awareness and interest of university students who will lead our country," and added, "The donation, combined with the students' heartfelt intentions, will be used meaningfully to support veterans' families in need."
Kim Kyung-ho, mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "Upon hearing the news that young students delivered a donation to the Veterans Hall, I felt proud and touched by their beautiful hearts and actions," and added, "We will continue to expand respect and support so that veterans' families can live with pride and dignity, carrying on the students' intentions."
The Gwangjin-gu Veterans Hall comprises seven veterans organizations: the Disabled Veterans Association, the Bereaved Families of Fallen Soldiers Association, the Widows of Fallen Soldiers Association, the Liberation Association, the Meritorious Service Association, the Korean War Veterans Association, and the Vietnam War Veterans Association. It strives to improve the welfare, morale, and treatment of veterans' families.
