Seoul Arena Construction Begins... Groundbreaking Ceremony Held at 2 PM on the 2nd... Dobong-gu Growth Expectations at All-Time High... Oh Eun-seok, Dobong-gu Mayor, "Focusing Administrative Efforts to Expedite Seoul Arena Construction"
The groundbreaking ceremony for 'Seoul Arena,' a K-POP concert hall attracting global attention, was held on the afternoon of the 2nd at the Chang-dong site in Dobong-gu.
On this day, Oh Eun-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, attended the 'Seoul Arena Complex Cultural Facility Groundbreaking Ceremony' hosted by Seoul Arena, celebrating the beginning of Seoul Arena together with Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, Jeong Shin-ah, CEO of Kakao, and about 250 local residents.
Seoul Arena is the largest K-POP concert hall in Korea, built on approximately 50,000㎡ of land in the Chang-dong area of Dobong-gu, with two basement floors and six above-ground floors, accommodating about 28,000 people standing during performances.
Equipped with world-class performance infrastructure, it is expected to provide fast and convenient production of performances and a high-quality viewing environment.
Seoul Arena, which began construction on November 30, 2023, will showcase its grandeur to K-POP fans and the public in March 2027 after a 40-month construction period.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Seoul Arena, the project operator, expressed its ambitious vision to lead the growth of the domestic music market by establishing a virtuous cycle structure that expands the performance market through new demand creation and new content development, and to strengthen the global status of K-POP.
During a period when progress was sluggish due to interest rate hikes and a downturn in the construction market, Oh Eun-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, who had made efforts to ensure the project's smooth progress, including meetings with Oh Ji-hoon, CEO of Seoul Arena, said, “I can already see the lively Dobong-gu bustling with young people who love music and culture and workers in related industries. We plan to support the construction of Seoul Arena as soon as possible, and together with Seoul Arena, we will surely achieve a virtuous cycle where people gather in the area and related industries develop.” He expressed high expectations for the changes and dynamic future of Dobong with Seoul Arena.
Earlier, as the groundbreaking of Seoul Arena became full-scale, Dobong-gu established a dedicated organization to comprehensively promote future strategic projects of Dobong-gu. Going forward, the district plans to systematically carry out tasks to ensure that large-scale development projects in the Chang-dong area, centered on the arena, become the foundation for regional revitalization, including ▲support for large-scale development in Chang-dong ▲development of tourism industry linked with Seoul Arena ▲activation of local commercial districts ▲review of measures to minimize inconvenience to local residents.
