The 29th National University Model United Nations Conference opened on the 2nd at Gachon University Convention Center. This event, held over four days and three nights, is hosted by the United Nations Association of Korea, organized by Gachon University, and sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The main topics are ▲Challenges and threats in cyberspace ▲Global health crisis response due to the pandemic ▲Climate change and international security.

At the opening ceremony, Gachon University President Il-yeo Lee, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UN Association of Korea Chairman Young-hoon Kwak, and over 270 students from 35 universities nationwide attended.

The Model United Nations Conference began in 1995 to provide university students with an opportunity to experience multilateral diplomacy, enhance their understanding of global issues facing the world, and develop their ability to propose solutions, helping them grow into global leaders.

Students stay and dine at Gachon University for four days and three nights, discussing agendas in the General Assembly and three committees, and adopt a resolution on the final day, the 5th. The meeting format fully replicates the actual UN decision-making system.

Students present opinions on the agenda as teams, considering the situations of countries selected by lottery, and coordinate interests between nations. Teams consist of one to two students, and the First Committee, which addresses climate change and international security, uses English exclusively.

In his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony, Gachon University President Il-yeo Lee said, "I am very pleased that the future leaders who will play active roles on the 21st-century global stage are coming together to discuss international issues," and encouraged, "Please gather your wisdom and take the lead as young people armed with dreams and passion to seek solutions to complex global challenges such as rapid globalization, technological advancement, labor market changes, and climate change response, and to pioneer the future."
