Survey Results Show 59% Want Venue Change
Preference for Soho Yacht Stadium, Yeosu Expo Site, Sinwoldong
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 2nd that 59% of citizens surveyed believe the location of the Yeosu Night Sea Fireworks Festival should be changed.
According to the city, an online survey was conducted on the Citizen Communication Plaza regarding the Yeosu Night Sea Fireworks Festival from May 27 to June 2, with a total of 1,759 participants.
This survey was prepared to address issues such as increased citizen inconvenience due to traffic congestion around Jungang-dong caused by the festival, residents’ fatigue from the event being concentrated at Yi Sun-sin Square, and the limited maritime space available at the current venue.
According to the survey results, 59% of participants responded that the fireworks festival location should be changed. The optimal locations were identified as ▲the sea area in front of Soho Yacht Stadium, ▲the sea area in front of Yeosu Expo Site, and ▲the sea area in front of Hanwha Aerospace in Sinwol-dong, in that order.
Regarding specialization of the venue, 53% favored specializing in one location, while 46% supported holding the event at two rotating locations.
Additionally, 81% of respondents believed the festival should be held annually, while 17% preferred a biennial schedule.
Based on the survey results, Yeosu City plans to comprehensively review factors such as accessibility by location, tourism infrastructure, traffic issues, visitor capacity, and the safety of the fireworks barges to select the optimal festival venue.
A city official stated, “Through this survey, we have learned the citizens’ preferences for the festival’s development. We will actively promote selecting the optimal festival location and developing new fireworks programs to ensure that many tourists visit Yeosu this year and that citizens can enjoy a more comfortable and improved festival.”
