'Semiconductor Technology Center' Opens on the 2nd in Gwanggyo, Suwon

'Semiconductor Technology Center' Opens on the 2nd in Gwanggyo, Suwon Kim Hyun-gon, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeonggi Province, is speaking at the opening ceremony of the Semiconductor Technology Center on the 2nd.

On the 2nd, the 'Semiconductor Technology Center,' responsible for new product development, technology verification, and professional workforce training for the semiconductor industry in Gyeonggi-do, opened its doors.

The Semiconductor Technology Center was constructed by remodeling the large research building (Building E) of the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute, with a total investment of 41.3 billion KRW, including 25.9 billion KRW from the national government, 11.5 billion KRW from the provincial government, and 3.9 billion KRW from other sources.

With a total floor area of 3,711㎡, the center houses the 'Semiconductor Materials, Parts, and Equipment (SoBuJang) Element Technology Performance Testing Site (Testbed)' supporting prototype development and technology verification for semiconductor SoBuJang companies, as well as the 'Semiconductor Workforce Development Center (G-SPEC),' an educational space for nurturing future semiconductor talent.

The Semiconductor Technology Center will strengthen support for prototype production and technology verification for small and medium-sized enterprises through an integrated support system linked to the testbed, and will play a role in cultivating practical, field-oriented professional personnel centered on corporate demand.

Gyeonggi-do plans to establish a regionally integrated industry-academia-research-government cooperation system centered on the Semiconductor Technology Center and to actively promote the 'Gyeonggi-do Semiconductor Ecosystem Establishment Plan' through one-stop, full-cycle corporate support, aiming to resolve the difficulties faced by mid-sized and small semiconductor companies in the province regarding technological innovation and talent acquisition.

Kim Hyun-gon, Vice Governor for Economy of Gyeonggi-do, stated, "Now is the era of the Chip War and semiconductor sovereignty competition. I am confident that the Korean semiconductor industry will overcome difficult conditions and firmly maintain its world No. 1 position. Our future lies in semiconductors. As the nation’s first semiconductor large and small enterprise technology development cooperation platform, Gyeonggi-do will actively support the development of the semiconductor industry," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, following the opening ceremony, Gyeonggi-do signed the 'Gyeonggi-do Semiconductor Talent Base Expansion Agreement' with four institutions?Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute, Samsung Electronics, and SK Hynix?to expand the base for semiconductor talent development targeting students in the province.

Additionally, Gyeonggi-do conducted the 'Gyeonggi-do Semiconductor Industry Technology Agreement' with four institutions?the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Korea Nano Technology Institute, and Korea Ceramic Technology Institute?to strengthen support for technology exchange through joint research and advanced semiconductor technology development.
