Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok stated on the 2nd regarding the Democratic Party of Korea's proposal of impeachment motions against four prosecutors who investigated the illegal North Korea remittance case and the Han Myeong-sook Prime Minister case, "If the impeachment motions are passed, I will send prosecutors from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office behind me to ensure that there is no disruption to investigation and trial work."
On the same day, Lee made this remark after announcing the position of the prosecution on the Democratic Party's proposal of impeachment motions against prosecutors at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office press room in Seocho-dong, Seoul. When asked, "Do you think the proposal of impeachment motions against prosecutors will affect the prosecution's investigations? If so, what kind of impact do you foresee?" he responded accordingly.
Lee said, "I recall that a member (secretary) of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee recently mentioned in a media interview that 'the impeachment of Prosecutor Andongwan was dismissed, and the impeachment of two prosecutors currently undergoing judgment is also unlikely to pass.' Therefore, I believe that very few people think the impeachment motions against the four prosecutors proposed today will be approved by the Constitutional Court through impeachment trials."
He added, "There are over 2,000 prosecutors. If the impeachment motions are passed and prosecutors are unable to conduct investigations or trials, I will send prosecutors from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office behind me to ensure that there is no disruption to those duties."
He continued, "I consider that my mission. I firmly believe that punishments corresponding to crimes must be carried out."
However, Lee also said, "(If the impeachment motions are passed) realistically, there will be some disruption," adding, "If the prosecutors who were investigating and handling the trials of those cases step down, it will take considerable time for their successors to grasp the complex cases, but we will not stop making efforts until the end."
On the same day, the Democratic Party proposed impeachment motions against four prosecutors involved in the investigation or trial of the ▲illegal North Korea remittance case ▲Han Myeong-sook Prime Minister political funds law violation case ▲state affairs manipulation case ▲presidential election opinion rigging case.
