Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo is making efforts to attract a Starbucks Reserve Roastery store, one of only six locations worldwide, drawing attention to whether the plan will succeed.

On the 2nd, during the expanded executive meeting in July, Mayor Lee instructed, "Prepare a formal proposal to attract a Starbucks Reserve Roastery store at the Daejeon Provincial Government Building and submit it officially to Shinsegae."

During a recent official trip to Seattle, USA, Mayor Lee met with Starbucks representatives and suggested, "We are considering offering the recently purchased Daejeon Provincial Government Building to Starbucks. Since it is our building, we can provide it at a low cost for a long term, and it is only 50 meters away from Seongsimdang, which will create a great synergy effect," proposing the attraction of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery store to Daejeon.

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery is a rare store, with only six locations worldwide: Seattle, Chicago, New York in the USA; Tokyo in Japan; Shanghai in China; and Milan in Italy. As a premium specialty store of Starbucks, visitors can enjoy the spectacle of coffee beans being roasted and find unique coffee and merchandise, making it a must-visit spot when visiting those countries.

Mayor Lee plans to revitalize the old downtown area by enhancing synergy with Seongsimdang through the attraction of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery.

He emphasized, "Seattle has grown into a dynamic global city with the presence of Starbucks, Amazon, Boeing, and others," adding, "If we demonstrate the capability to cooperate amid various difficulties, we can advance into a top-tier economic city."
