Mokpo Maritime Police Station Effectively Fulfills Role as Ambulance on the Sea

186 Emergency Patients Transported in the First Half of 2024

Highest Number Transported Compared to Same Period from 2021 to 2023

Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) has played a crucial role as an ambulance on the sea by transporting 186 emergency patients in the first half of this year.

According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 2nd, this is the highest number compared to 156 emergency patients transported in 2023, 173 in 2022, and 163 in 2021 during the same period.

Over the past three years (2021?2023), Mokpo Maritime Police transported a total of 1,105 emergency patients, averaging about 31 patients per month.

In particular, it was analyzed that the highest number of emergency patients occurred during the peak summer season from July to September. Emergency patients during July to September over the past three years totaled 333, accounting for 30% of the total, indicating the need for careful attention to safety.

Emergency patients mainly occurred in Sinan-gun and Jindo-gun, areas with many islands, and the Maritime Police transported them primarily using coastal rescue boats and small vessels for quick response.

Mokpo Maritime Police plans to continue efforts to protect the precious lives of island residents in medical blind spots by discussing improvements to the island emergency medical system together with health centers located in Sinan-gun and Jindo-gun.

Chief Kwon said, “We will maintain a 24-hour emergency dispatch system to urgently transport emergency patients occurring in the islands and at sea within our jurisdiction, and we will do our best as the Maritime Police to protect the lives and safety of the people.”
