The Pony Jung Foundation plans to operate the building to secure stable revenue and promote differentiated scholarship and academic support projects.
The Pony Jung Foundation Building, located at 9 Gyeonghuigung 1-ga-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul (Sinmunno 2-ga 1-180), is a building with one basement floor and three above-ground floors (total floor area of 1,097.02㎡). After two years of construction, it received completion approval at the end of May.
The completion ceremony held that day was attended by Chairman Jung Mong-gyu and the foundation's board members, as well as Chairman Jung Mong-jun of the Asan Foundation, Chairman Jung Mong-yoon of Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance, Chairman Jung Mong-won of HL Group, Chairman Jung Mong-jin of KCC Group, and key executives from the broader Hyundai family and HDC Group.
In his greeting, Chairman Jung Mong-gyu said, "Thanks to the hard work of many people, the Pony Jung Foundation Building was able to be completed without major difficulties," and added, "As the Pony Jung Foundation celebrates its 20th anniversary next year, I ask for your continued interest so that it can create more history of growth and sharing centered around Sinmunno."
The Pony Jung Foundation plans to lease out the entire building to secure stable revenue, which will be used to promote foundation projects such as scholarship programs and support for humanities research activities.
On the first floor, which can accommodate large meetings and seminars, the foundation plans to actively attract official events such as the Innovation Award and Young Leader Award, as well as public lecture programs utilizing the diverse talent pool in the humanities field cultivated over the past 20 years.
Choi Wook, CEO of One One Architex, who was in charge of the design, explained, "Since the Pony Jung Foundation Building is located on the axis connecting Jeongjeon of Gyeonghuigung and Geunjeongjeon of Gyeongbokgung, we focused on combining the area's historical significance with the essence of architectural space. We divided the space with a transparent structure to enable free and smooth communication, enhancing depth, and actively brought in the natural scenery outside the window to fill the spatial margins and harmonize with the landscape."
The Pony Jung Foundation was established in 2005 to continue the spirit of innovation and challenge of the late Chung Se-young, founder of Hyundai Motor Company and Honorary Chairman of HDC Group (formerly Hyundai Development Company). The foundation focuses on scholarship programs, supports the humanities field, and awards the Pony Jung Innovation Award and Young Leader Award to encourage innovators.
