Korea says "No response to negative attacks" amid betrayal theory criticism
Han Dong-hoon, a candidate for the People Power Party presidential election on July 23, rebutted Won Hee-ryong, who on the 2nd questioned whether the third-party recommended special prosecutor law by Chae Sang-byeong could be withdrawn, by asking, "Is there any alternative to block the reckless special prosecutor law of the Democratic Party?"
After finishing the vision presentation meeting held in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the same day, Han met with reporters and said, "I have explained sufficiently, but similar remarks keep being made. There may be different opinions on my proposal," he said.
On the same day, Won mentioned conflicts involving President Kim Young-sam and New Korea Party Chairman Lee Hoi-chang, President Roh Moo-hyun and Uri Party leader Chung Dong-young, as well as President Park Geun-hye and the Saenuri Party, stating, "History testifies that conflicts between the president and the party leader caused the loss of power," and added, "Isn't it possible to withdraw the demand for the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor now? I think it is right to withdraw it even now. The choice is up to former Chairman Han."
After finishing the vision presentation meeting, Won directly criticized Han, saying, "A person who wants to become the leader should not unilaterally take the lead in pushing the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor law. This is a lack of communication, a lack of party discussion, and personally, a lack of experience and strategy."
Han responded to this by saying, "I want to ask whether you just want to wait and see or if you think you can prevent the defection of nine members. I have asked several times, but it seems you cannot answer."
Regarding other candidates who are launching accusations of betrayal against President Yoon, Han said, "I generally try not to respond to such negative political attacks. I have a lot to say. Don't you all know what I can say?" he retorted.
He added, "This is an internal party election, and afterward, we need to unite to confront the rampage of the major opposition party and engage in politics for the people's livelihood," concluding, "I will endure it."
