Wando-gun Completes Shingu Port Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project Today

Children and Women’s Culture Center, Shinbok Welfare Hall Construction and Breakwater Extension 추진

Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do held a completion ceremony for the ‘Singuhang Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ at the Sinbok Community Center in Sinpyeong-ri, Geumil-eup on the 27th of last month.

According to the county on the 2nd, about 100 people attended the ceremony, including County Council member Jo In-ho, Wando-gun Planning and Budget Office Director Han Hee-seok, Regional Development Division Chief Lee Gi-seok, Geumil-eup Mayor Kim Yong-sik, Chairman of the Fishing Village New Deal Project Promotion Committee Kim Seong-bae, as well as heads of institutions, social organizations, and residents.

The completion ceremony began with a project progress report by the Southwest Sea Branch of the Korea Fisheries Infrastructure Public Corporation, followed by the presentation of plaques of appreciation and merit awards, and congratulatory speeches.

The ‘Singuhang Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ was selected in December 2019 as a public contest project by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, started construction in January 2020, and was completed after four years.

The project invested a total of 10.9 billion KRW to create a theme of ‘a welfare fishing village where children and women are happy,’ establishing the Singoo Children and Women’s Cultural Center, a multi-generational complex center for empathy, the Sinbok Community Center, and the Island Village Community Cultural Hall, as well as extending the breakwater and improving the quay.

With the establishment of various public facilities, the project enhanced residents’ welfare, reinforced the outer facilities of Sinpyeong Port and Gudong Port to secure calm waters within the harbor, and restored the fishing port functions by installing new berthing facilities.

Currently, Wando-gun is promoting the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project targeting Aksan Eodu Port, Soan Mira Port, and Nohwa Mira Port.

A county official stated, “Through the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, we will do our best to improve the living conditions in fishing villages to create livable and vibrant fishing villages.”

Meanwhile, the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project is an integrated development project for fishing villages and ports that supports innovative growth in fishing villages.
