Uiryeong County Announces Open Recruitment for Sites for County-Operated Haengbok Park and Public Crematorium

Until August 19... 10 Billion KRW Regional Development Support for Villages Within 1km of Crematoriums

Uiryeong County in Gyeongnam announced that it will publicly recruit villages to host the County-run Haengbok Park and public crematorium for 50 days until August 19.

The creation of the County-run Haengbok Park and public crematorium is one of the pledges of County Governor Oh Taewan. With a project budget of 10 billion KRW, the plan is to establish a 12,000-square-meter park that combines memorial and recreational spaces, and to construct a crematorium of 3,000 square meters that can accommodate three cremation furnaces, all on a 15,000-square-meter site.

To apply, individuals or representatives of villages, corporations, or organizations must submit application documents to the town or township office. Applicants must have resident registration in the administrative village where the proposed site is located as of the announcement date, and must have obtained consent from at least 60% of the households actually residing there. The County Funeral Facilities Promotion Committee will then review and make a final decision on the site selection.

Meanwhile, Uiryeong County is securing the foundation for construction by conducting a feasibility study on the cremation facility and enacting related ordinances.

Once the final site is confirmed, the county plans to provide a variety of bold incentives, including 10 billion KRW in regional development projects, rights to operate ancillary facilities, and job opportunities to administrative villages located within 1 km of the crematorium for five years after completion.

A county official said, "We plan to build an eco-friendly crematorium that is odorless, smokeless, and colorless. By expanding green spaces such as parks, we will ensure these areas serve as rest spaces for local residents," adding, "We hope many residents will take interest in attracting Haengbok Park, which will be a groundbreaking turning point for regional development."
