Scheduled Near Accident Site but Canceled
"Canceled Unavoidably... Kindly Ask for Your Generous Understanding"
The film-related event scheduled for the 2nd was canceled due to the aftermath of the wrong-way driving accident near Seoul City Hall Station that resulted in 13 casualties. Originally, a coffee truck event for the movie "Talju," starring actor Lee Je-hoon, was planned to take place near the accident area on that day.
Plus M Entertainment, the distributor of "Talju," announced through their official Instagram account, "The 'Talju' coffee truck event scheduled for the 2nd has been inevitably canceled," and added, "We kindly ask for the understanding of those who planned to attend."
Netizens who heard the news responded with understanding comments such as "It's unfortunate, but I understand," and "It was raining, and the incident the day before was very serious." There were also comments mourning the victims, saying, "We sincerely pray for the deceased."
"Talju," set to be released on the 3rd, stars Lee Je-hoon along with actors Koo Kyo-hwan and Hong Sa-bin. Originally, before the official release, a relay coffee truck event was planned for 12 PM on the 2nd at the plaza in front of the Seoul Shinmun building (Taepyeongno 1-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul). Lee Je-hoon was also scheduled to attend the event to meet fans and prospective viewers in person.

Meanwhile, according to the police and fire authorities, the accident that occurred around 9:27 PM the previous day resulted in 9 deaths and 4 injuries. Among the 9 deceased, 6 died at the scene, and 3 were transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but ultimately passed away. The deceased were men in their 30s to 50s, known to be ordinary office workers such as employees of City Hall, banks, and hospitals.

The large-scale accident on a sidewalk frequently used by office workers shocked the citizens as well. At the Yeongdeungpo Hospital funeral hall in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, people continued to visit to pay their respects to the deceased, and a memorial procession formed early in the morning at Exit 7 of City Hall Station near the accident site. Notes mourning the victims and white chrysanthemums were also placed there.
The vehicle driver, Mr. A (68), was apprehended by the police at the scene and was transported to the hospital along with his wife, who was riding with him at the time of the accident, but they were both sent home afterward. Mr. A claims the accident was caused by sudden unintended acceleration, and there is no indication of drunk driving. Whether drugs were involved or if drowsy driving was a factor has not yet been confirmed. The police are investigating the specific circumstances of the accident based on Mr. A’s condition and witness statements.
