Song Yong-su, Director of Climate and Environment Bureau, Gwangju Metropolitan City
Song Yong-su, Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau of Gwangju Metropolitan City, who has actively resolved inconveniences and consistently worked to improve residents' welfare for 20 years, received a plaque of appreciation from the residents.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 2nd, residents around the Yanggwa-dong Regional Sanitary Landfill in Nam-gu, a representative environmental facility in the area, presented the plaque of appreciation to Director Song the day before.
The residents praised Director Song Yong-su for actively addressing the inconveniences faced by residents in the landfill's surrounding impact area and for his efforts to enhance residents' welfare, expressing their gratitude.
While most local governments experience conflicts with residents around environmental facilities, it drew attention that the residents expressed their gratitude by presenting a plaque of appreciation.
As the head of the Resource Facility Team, Director Song actively accepted the inconveniences and demands of residents in the landfill's surrounding impact area and worked for nearly 20 years to resolve residents' difficulties for the smooth operation of the landfill and the improvement of residents' welfare in the surrounding impact area.
Now undergoing retirement preparation training, Director Song said, “Thanks to the cooperation of local residents and fellow public officials, I was able to spend a long public service career meaningfully,” and added, “Receiving this plaque of appreciation is more than I deserve.”
The Gwangju Metropolitan Sanitary Landfill located in Yanggwa-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, is the only waste disposal facility in Gwangju that began landfill operations in January 2005, and in 2023, it receives and processes an average of 521 tons of waste per day.
